I've always liked a good Taylor Swift pop/ country song. As always though, when it comes to the radio, songs get played over and over again to the point you end up getting sick of them, which is by no means something that's singular to Taylor, it happens to ALL songs and it drives me bonkers. I get the reasonings as to why they do it but to all of you out there that experience the same pains, we unite in sympathy.
ANYWAY, over the last year or so, Taylors' songs have, I think personally, superceded all of her predecessors and without realising, have gone and become a bit of a Swiftie! And despite the radios still overplaying songs, I am yet to tire of these! Is it because they just speak to me somehow or is there another reason? Time will tell.
But it lead me on to watching her very candid Miss Americana documentary on Netflix and am now having to admit to simply being a full blown Swiftie rather than just a bit of one 😂
And here is why...
Sheer Talent
I found myself in actual awe of her talent whilst watching this documentary. It's so easy to watch and listen to artists whether you like a song or not, and you either don't think to/attempt to, appreciate the level of work behind it. Or equally find yourself thinking it was just cooked up in a commercialised lab to tick the boxes.
For Taylor, this is not the case.
The documentary is great at portraying her creativity and talent in how she comes up with her songs and how she works with a select few to produce and develop them into the songs we hear today and it's captivating.
2. Honesty
Her level of honesty is refreshing. I must confess to forming my own opinions of her back in the day as none of us can deny we've been swayed by media at some point in our lives. To now see her explaining why things were a certain way or what was ultimately happening behind the scenes just makes so much sense and quite honestly, I'd hate to be in the spotlight like many artists are. They suffer so much scrutiny and for what, for companies to sell magazines and stories that 99% of the time aren't even true. So let this be a lesson to everybody, don't be judgemental of something you cannot fully understand. Everybody has a right to an opinion but don't be so quick to assume that opinion is the correct or only valid one when you are outside of that circle.
3. Beliefs and strength to uphold
I thoroughly enjoyed hearing how Taylor has evolved over time into both finding and feeling confident enough, to voice her opinions, I.e on politics. As mentioned above, everybody has a right to an opinion but imagine being told for years on end to never voice it in fear of it hurting your talent and popularity. That's suppressing who you fundamentally are and must be seriously difficult to deal with.
You will always get trolls on social media. Or of course you'll get people who fundamentally don't agree with your opinions which is absolutely fine. My only wish with the media and social media platforms, is that people adopted the rule of "if you can't say anything nice, then don't say it all" motto. It was something I was always brought up with and have increasingly learnt with time how important that actually is. Don't hate on people for having different opinions. Respect it, debate in a respectable way but don't hate..
Now granted Taylor has had many years of success by now, so much so that there may be an element of thinking she'd have enough support backing her whether she lost a few from voicing these opinions or not. Either way, she's finally confident in expressing her opinions in an intelligent and dignified way and I respect that.
Go Taylor.
So whether you are or aren't presently a Swiftie or have formed whatever opinions of her to date, I challenge you to watch this because it's not only an interesting and entertaining watch but you might find yourself backtracking on some of those previously formed opinions like I did.
I bet you become a bit of a Swiftie 😉
